How to set up IPTV on a Firestick, step by step

Short answer: install an IPTV player from the Amazon Appstore, choose Xtream Codes when it asks how to add a playlist, then type your server address, username and password. The channels and TV guide load after that. It usually takes about ten minutes.

What you need first

  • A Firestick or Fire TV connected to your internet.
  • An IPTV subscription login: server address, username and password. You get these after you choose a plan.
  • The Fire TV remote. A phone keyboard app can make typing easier.

Step 1: install a player from the Amazon Appstore

On the Fire TV home screen, open Find, then Search, and type "IPTV player". Look for a well-reviewed app that says it supports Xtream Codes or M3U. Install it from the Appstore. What is available changes by device and country, so pick from what you see on your own screen.

Step 2: add your login

  1. Open the app and choose to add a new playlist or user.
  2. Choose Xtream Codes if it is offered. It is the simplest option.
  3. Type the server address, username and password exactly as they were sent to you, including capital letters.
  4. Save, then wait while the app loads the channels.

Only use the M3U link if your app asks for a playlist link and has no Xtream Codes option.

Step 3: load the TV guide

With an Xtream Codes login, most apps fill in the program guide by themselves. If the guide stays empty, look for an option to update the EPG in the app settings, and give it a few minutes.

If playback stutters

  • Restart the Fire TV: hold Select and Play together until it restarts.
  • Move your router closer, or use an Ethernet adapter if you have one. Wi-Fi is the usual cause.
  • Try a lower quality version of the channel if there is one.
  • Read the internet speed guide to see what 4K needs.

Common questions

Which app do I need for IPTV on a Firestick?

Any IPTV player that supports Xtream Codes or an M3U playlist. Search for one in the Amazon Appstore on your Fire TV. Availability changes by device and country, so use what your own store offers.

Should I choose Xtream Codes or M3U?

Choose Xtream Codes if your app offers it. You type a server address, username and password, and the app usually loads the channels and TV guide together. Use the M3U link only if the app asks for a playlist link.

Why does it say my login is wrong?

Usernames and passwords are case-sensitive, and the Fire TV keyboard makes small typing mistakes easy. Check the server address too, and retype all three carefully.

Can I watch on another device with the same login?

A login can be added to other supported devices, but how many can watch at the same time depends on your plan.
